Remembering Cpl. Daegan William-Tyler Page, USMC, 23

Charity Of The Month September 30th, 2021

After news of the bombing on August 26, 2021 that took the life of this Nebraska native, the community and its leaders, both local and state, reacted with emotion and took to media to express their condolences.

“My heart was already broken over (the) loss of 13 service members […]. Now the loss is even harder. God bless Corporal Page. He saved lives and served his country honorably. […] By his bravery and will, many others will have a chance. I send my heartfelt condolences to his family.”

Rep. Jeff Fortenberry, R-Neb.

“Our hearts are breaking right now. Nebraska will long remember Corporal Page’s heroic service to his country, and we mourn his passing. Susanne and I encourage Nebraskans to keep Daegan’s family in their prayers.”

Gov. Pete Ricketts

“It is with great sorrow that I learned one of Nebraska’s own was killed. We are heartbroken. Bruce and I extend our condolences to Daegan’s family. (His) service to the nation will not be forgotten.”

Sen. Deb Fischer

“I ask all of Omaha to honor the life of Cpl. Daegan Page. He had a special kind of courage and commitment to serve our country and protect others. We owe an immeasurable debt of gratitude to those who wear our nation’s uniform, and faithfully and respectfully serve.”

Mayor Jean Stothert

Page was a longtime Boy Scout during his childhood years in Red Oak, Iowa. According to his family, one of his passions was hockey. He played for Omaha Westside in the Omaha Hockey Club and was a big fan of the Chicago Blackhawks. He also enjoyed outdoor activities and spent quite a bit of time hunting with his father. Page was also known to have a “soft spot in his heart for dogs,” the family said. After graduating from Millard South High School in 2016, he enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps and became a member of the 2nd Battalion Marine Regiment based at Camp Pendleton, Calif. In a statement released by his family, “He loved the brotherhood of the Marines and was proud to serve.”

Page leaves behind 4 siblings, his mother and father, step-mother and step-father, grandparents, and his girlfriend, Jessica. His family said “Daegan always looked forward to coming home and hanging out with (us) and many (of his) buddies. To his younger siblings, he was their favorite jungle gym and to his friends, he was a genuinely happy guy that you could always count on”. Daegan had plans to attend trade school and become a lineman. The spokesperson for the family finished by saying, “Daegan will be remembered for his tough outer shell and giant heart. Our hearts are broken, but we are thankful for the friends and family who are surrounding us during this time. Our thoughts and prayers are also with the other families whose loved ones died alongside Daegan.”

“To his friends, he was a genuinely happy guy that you could always count on.”
