It’s back-to-school time, and many kids across the United States are in need of supplies to help them start the year off right. That’s why CharityRx recently partnered with Kids In Need Foundation to pack and donate new backpacks with school supplies.
CharityRx donated 500 backpacks full of essential school supplies thanks to donations generated each time a pharmacy uses our card. With these backpacks and supplies, kids at underserved schools nationwide will have a better chance of success in their education this year.
The CharityRx team was excited to help make a difference. Area Leaders hosted events to pack the new supplies into backpacks and deliver them to an underserved school.
Tonya Saucer gathered eight people who worked for 3-½ hours for a combined total of 28 hours of volunteer time. Backpacks from her event went to Rachel Patterson Elementary in Atmore, Alabama.
After delivering the donation, Tonya related her experience, “This project was completely amazing! Not only was it great to have team members together, but the community got excited at the restaurant we used for the project.
“Arriving at the school with 100 backpacks was so much fun! The school wanted to get a picture with all of them out of the boxes and had the local newspaper there to write an article. Many teachers and staff of the school were there to hear about our Charity of the Month and what we do as a company to help so many in our community! I’m very happy to have been chosen to be a part of this backpack build project!”
Matthew Noel gathered 12 people and worked for about 2-½ hours, equalling 32 volunteer hours at his event. Water Canyon Elementary in Hildale, Utah, was the closest school to his location.
Matthew said, “It was a fantastic event, and I really enjoyed working with the group of people I had. It made me think about each kid who would receive one of these backpacks.”
Patty Engel’s event included 11 people for 4 hours, totaling 44 volunteer hours. Patty and her crew delivered the backpacks to Franklin Elementary in Santa Barbara, California.
“Service projects are always so much more meaningful when you can experience them as a team. This one was fun: hosting everyone at my home and seeing everyone participate. Everyone took an active role in unpacking the boxes, organizing the materials, taking the boxes to recycling, stuffing the backpacks, and packing them up. It went seamlessly.
“The GPS got some of us lost on the way to the school, but we all endured in good humor and eventually found our destination. The principal was so happy with our gift of 100 stuffed backpacks! I only wish we could have seen the kids as they received them,” she said of her experience.
Javier Carrasco lives some distance from other CharityRx reps, so he and his family donated 16 hours to stuff 100 backpacks. Javier then delivered them to Tomas Rivera Elementary in Denton, Texas.
“I can’t wait to get more reps involved next year. Our efforts in July made a huge impact on this school. Tomas Rivera Elementary wanted to say hi, thank you, AND KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK!!!! These ladies work very hard to provide their kids with the essential tools and resources that are not so readily available,” Javier said.
Timothy Katko delivered 100 backpacks to Chester Upland School of Arts in Chester, Pennsylvania. His group included 14 people who donated 20 hours of service.
After delivering the backpacks, Timothy told us, “The chance to bring my family and friends outside of CharityRx and coworkers and friends from CharityRx together absolutely made me joyful. Both worlds came together, and the camaraderie between everyone was amazing. I had a few young kids helping out, and seeing my niece and nephew putting in work as well was rewarding.
“On delivery day, I had a bunch of thoughts and random worries about how the people receiving the donation would take it. Once I got in front of the principal and vice principal, all my thoughts were blown out of the water, and it went way better than I could have imagined.
“Being able to go into my pharmacies to show them pictures and tell them about the school right next door that we helped was an entirely new and special experience. The school being right in our backyard made this experience exceptional for me. I hope we can do something like this again real soon. Thank you for giving us this opportunity.”
