Making a Difference in the Lives of Children in Foster Care

According to recent statistics from the Adoption and Foster Care Analysis and Reporting System (AFCARS), there are currently more than 400,000 children in foster care in the United States. These children have been removed from their homes due to neglect, abuse, or other safety concerns. While foster care is intended to provide a safe and loving temporary home for these children, the reality is that many of them face numerous challenges during their time in the system.

One of the many challenges children in foster care face is losing personal belongings when they are removed from their homes. When placed with a new family, they often carry their few belongings in black garbage bags. This adds to the stressful experience of being uprooted from their homes and contributes to feelings of shame.

“This month’s donation is special for my wife and me. As many of you know, we were foster parents for three and a half years. During that time, we learned that kids in foster care usually go from home to home with a garbage bag for luggage. When I heard that, I immediately dreamed of filling up a trailer full of suitcases to give to foster kids…”

Eric Beaumont

CharityRx and Project Linus recognized this need and took action by donating suitcases and blankets to foster care agencies. In addition to these comfort items, CharityRx team members and families wrote messages of love and encouragement on 230 notecards. These simple donations can make a big difference in the lives of children in foster care by giving them a sense of ownership, comfort, and dignity.

The Impact of Donations to Foster Care Agencies

The donation of 230 suitcases and blankets may seem small, but it has significantly impacted the children at the Angels of Grace Foster Family Agency. These donations will not only provide practical benefits, like having a place to store their belongings, but they will also boost the children’s morale and self-esteem.

In addition to providing physical items, charitable giving and donations to foster care agencies also help raise awareness about the needs of the children. It encourages more people to get involved and make a difference in the lives of these vulnerable children.

Agency CEO Lisa Casarez-Austin posted on social media, “Angels of Grace Foster Family Agency was blessed beyond measure today as CharityRx owners Ashlie & Eric Beaumont traveled all the way from Utah to deliver 230 suitcases for our children in foster care. We were able to share the blessing with my beautiful sister/friend, Director of CASA Fresno/Madera County, Wilma Hashimoto. ❤️ A special thank you to Norma and Ray Rios for being a blessing. ❤️ Love them!!! ❤️”

The CharityRx Team Donated in Person

CharityRx team members Ray and Norma Rios met Eric and Ashlie Beaumont in Fresno to deliver the blankets and suitcases. Eric said, “This month’s donation is special for my wife and me. As many of you know, we were foster parents for three and a half years. During that time, we learned that kids in foster care usually go from home to home with a garbage bag for luggage. When I heard that, I immediately dreamed of filling up a trailer full of suitcases to give to foster kids.

“Today, we filled up that trailer I dreamed of four years ago. We have been pushing the Buy Now button on Amazon for nearly two full months. Every couple of days, more boxes would stack up on my doorstep, and I thought. ‘this is a little overboard, even for you.’ Some might call it coincidence or luck, but we ended up ordering the exact number of suitcases that would fit into this trailer–exact! Coincidence… I don’t think so!”

Ray said in a social media post, “Norma and I had a great time with Eric and Ashlie as we dropped off much-anticipated suitcases at Angels of Grace Foster Family Agency. They were completely surprised by the carry-on suitcases (they were actually expecting something more like duffel bags). Lisa, the CEO, shared half of the suitcases with another county-run foster agency, CASA, and they, too, were very grateful and thankful! It was truly an amazing day for us… and we made the news!”
