This month, CharityRx has chosen to partner with Operation Underground Railroad (O.U.R) once again in their mission against human trafficking. August 2023 will be the third time CharityRx has campaigned for O.U.R., and we are proud to be part of making a difference in the fight against such an insidious crime.
Human trafficking is, unfortunately, one of the most prevalent and profitable crimes in the world, despite being illegal in all countries. Every year, millions of victims are deceived and exploited into forced labor and sexual servitude; many are children. According to the International Labour Organization (ILO), human trafficking generates $150 billion a year in profits for traffickers, making it the second-largest criminal industry in the world. The ILO report, Global Estimates of Modern Slavery: Forced Labour and Forced Marriage, states that …50 million people lived in modern slavery in 2021. Of these people, 28 million were in forced labor, and 22 million were trapped in forced marriage. Unfortunately, the number of people in modern slavery has risen significantly in the last five years. In 2021, 10 million more people were in modern slavery compared to 2016 global estimates.
